Disco (Side A)
Way back in March, I found a box full of my mom’s old tapes. There were originals, mixes, Spanish lessons, and a copy of the “I Have A Dream” speech (side A) coupled with a Christmas mix by The Temptations (B). Paradise in a box for a guy with an unabashed love for a nice analog recording and the equipment necessary to get the most out of them.

There was something intriguing and mysterious about the tape I’m sharing today. It sat near the bottom of the box - uncovered and unloved. The only visible sign of what it may contain being the word “Disco” scribbled on both sides.

Honestly I didn’t know many of the songs. When trying to find the information for the Real Roxanne jam I searched “How’s Tito?” way too many times. Finding all of the unknown info proved difficult, but it had to be done. There are a few immediately recognizable tunes like the Chaka Khan & Jackson fam numbers, but the others were surprisingly “obscure”. This mix shouts late 80s/early 90s.

Anyway I will be copying a tape from my mom’s mix collection each week. Here’s a glimpse into my mother’s life as a twenty-something. Download over at SoundCloud or click the photo to get a nice zip file with the cassette scan.
